Hypnotherapy for Stress, Burnout and Sleep Problems in South London and Online
Tired is not the same as rested, and nobody can run on fumes forever. If you are exhausted, wired at bedtime or simply cannot remember what calm feels like, we can change that.
You might be nodding along if…
- You are tired all day and wide awake at 2am
- You cannot switch off, even on holiday or at the weekend
- You feel flat, irritable or detached from things you used to enjoy
- You say yes to everything and then resent it
- You fall asleep fine but wake in the night with your mind already running
- Rest makes you feel guilty rather than better
If so, you are not alone, and it is not a life sentence.
Stress is not weakness
More people than ever are asking for help with stress, and I think that is a good thing. Many of the clients who arrive worn out are the capable ones, the people who hold the family, the job and the diary together. They are not failing. Their nervous system has been in high alert for so long that high alert has become normal.
Burnout rarely arrives overnight. It builds through small things: overriding your own limits, putting everyone else first, telling yourself you will rest when everything is done. Part of my work is helping you notice those patterns, and the beliefs underneath them, so that recovery is something you can keep up, not another thing to fail at.
Sleep: start with the story you tell yourself
Before we talk techniques, I ask a few questions. How much sleep do you actually need, not what you think you should need? Some people function well on six hours and others need ten. Then: what is your story about sleep? Do you believe resting is lazy or self-indulgent? And what do you gain from not sleeping? Perhaps it is the only quiet time you get, or it feels productive. Those answers matter, because a part of you may be quietly choosing late nights.
Once we have untangled that, we build a sleep routine that is yours. It does not have to be long, but it needs to be the same every night: a wind-down, a bedroom that works for you, screens off, and some calming audio to help your mind let go. Hypnosis sits at the centre of this, teaching your body how to move into deep relaxation on cue.
How sessions help
We lower your baseline stress using hypnosis, breathwork and body-based techniques informed by Polyvagal Theory. We look at what is driving the overload, whether that is perfectionism, people-pleasing, or work that never stops. You will leave with practical tools to use between sessions, and you can also try my free audio guides on the resources page.
What to expect
We start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what is going on and whether I can help. Sessions last one hour to an hour and a half, at my clinic in Brixton (500m from the tube, overlooking Brockwell Park) or online via Zoom. Most clients notice a shift within two to three sessions and work with me for six to twelve in total. Clinical hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis: you stay awake, aware and in control throughout. Read more about sessions and fees or about me.
Frequently asked questions
Will hypnotherapy cure my insomnia?
I do not promise cures. What I can say is that sleep problems usually have a pattern behind them, such as worry, habits or beliefs, and that is exactly what we work on. Many clients tell me they sleep more deeply and wake feeling more rested.
What if I fall asleep during the session?
It happens, and it is a sign you are relaxed. Hypnosis is not sleep, but the suggestions are still heard by your subconscious. You are welcome to listen again later with a recording.
How do I know if this is burnout or something else?
I am not a doctor, so I cannot diagnose. If you have been struggling for weeks, feel very low, or have physical symptoms, please speak to your GP as well. Therapy and medical support work well together.
Do I need to take time off work to do this?
No. Sessions fit around life, and online sessions via Zoom mean you can fit one in without a commute.
