Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking, Vaping and Change Drinking in South London

Willpower alone rarely works, and that does not mean you are weak. A habit is a pattern with a payoff, and once we understand the payoff, we can change the pattern.

This may be for you if…

  • You want to stop smoking or vaping and keep slipping back
  • Your drinking feels bigger than you want it to be, even if you are not ready to quit entirely
  • You reach for your habit when you are stressed, bored, tired or celebrating
  • You are tired of telling yourself you will start again on Monday
  • You feel ashamed or beat yourself up afterwards
  • You want to cut down or stop, and want it to feel less like a battle

If so, you are not alone, and it is not a life sentence.

You are not weak, and you are not your habit

Most people feel a bit out of control with something at some point, whether it is nicotine, a glass of wine that becomes a bottle, or scrolling at night. The first thing I tell clients is that you are not alone. The second is that you are not weaker than anyone else, and you are not incapable of change.

It is not you that drinks, or you that has no self-control. It is something you do, not something you are. Change starts when you stop beating yourself up, and start getting curious.

Parts, payoffs and what is really going on

I often use parts theory with habits. There is a part of you that loves it: the fun, the social side, the break, the feeling. And there is a part that hates it: the hangovers, the cost, the guilt. They are locked in an argument, and you are caught in the middle. We let both sides speak, understand what each wants, and look for a way for you to meet those needs without the habit.

We also explore the trigger points, the stories you tell yourself and what the habit does for you emotionally. Hypnosis is excellent for nudging the subconscious towards new behaviour, and I combine it with talking therapy, so you are back in the driving seat.

Smoking and vaping

Clients who come to me for smoking or vaping often say they feel more in control and less deprived than they expected. We focus on the automatic routines and emotional triggers, not just the nicotine, so you are not left white-knuckling it.

What to expect

We start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what is going on and whether I can help. Sessions last one hour to an hour and a half, at my clinic in Brixton (500m from the tube, overlooking Brockwell Park) or online via Zoom. Most clients notice a shift within two to three sessions and work with me for six to twelve in total. Clinical hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis: you stay awake, aware and in control throughout. Read more about sessions and fees or about me.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still see you if I do not want to stop drinking completely?

Yes. Many clients want to moderate, not quit, and that is a perfectly valid goal. We will work on whatever you decide is right for you.

Is it safe to stop suddenly?

If you drink heavily or use drugs daily, stopping suddenly can be dangerous. Please speak to your GP or a specialist service first. I can work alongside that support.

How many sessions to quit smoking or vaping?

It varies. Some clients make a big shift quickly, while others need a few sessions to address triggers and emotional habits. We will discuss it in your free consultation.

Will I be made to feel ashamed?

Never. There is no judgement here. Shame keeps habits going, and kindness helps change them.
