Hypnotherapy for IBS, Fertility and Mind-Body Health in South London and Online

Your gut, your skin and your hormones are all in constant conversation with your nervous system. When the body feels under threat, it shows, and calming the system can make a real difference to how you feel.

You may be looking for support if…

  • Your digestion flares up when you are stressed, worried or under pressure
  • You are going through fertility treatment or IVF and the emotional load is huge
  • Waiting for results, appointments or news leaves you in knots
  • You feel betrayed by your body, or disconnected from it
  • A skin or other long-term condition gets worse when life gets hard
  • You want a calmer way to cope with medical procedures

If so, you are not alone, and it is not a life sentence.

The mind and body are not separate

We all know the feeling of butterflies before a big moment. That is the gut and the brain talking. For some people that conversation becomes louder and more painful, and symptoms such as IBS, tension or skin flare-ups can follow periods of stress. This is not ‘all in your head’. It is your nervous system, and it responds to how safe your body believes it is.

Hypnotherapy helps you shift out of a constant state of threat and into one where your body can rest and recover. It does not replace medical care and I will always encourage you to work with your doctor, but it can make a difference to how you experience your symptoms and how well you cope.

IBS and digestive symptoms

Gut-directed hypnotherapy is one of the better studied uses of hypnosis, and many people find that learning to relax the body and change how they respond to symptoms eases the cycle of worry and flare-ups. We look at your triggers, your stress patterns and the way you talk to yourself about your body, and practise deep relaxation techniques you can use at home.

Fertility, IVF and the emotional toll

The medical side of fertility treatment is only part of the story. The waiting, the injections, the hope and the disappointment can be exhausting. I support clients with the emotional weight of this journey: anxiety about procedures, the stress of the two-week wait, grief when things do not go to plan, and the feeling of being on an emotional rollercoaster.

I cannot promise outcomes and I would never suggest that stress is the reason someone has not conceived. What I can offer is a calmer way through, and support for the person at the centre of it all.

Skin and other long-term conditions

Many conditions, including skin problems, feel worse when we are stressed. We cannot change a diagnosis, but we can change how much stress is feeding it, and we can work on the frustration, sleep disruption and self-consciousness that often come with it. And if you are the parent of a child with a long-term condition, I understand how much worry that can carry.

What to expect

We start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what is going on and whether I can help. Sessions last one hour to an hour and a half, at my clinic in Brixton (500m from the tube, overlooking Brockwell Park) or online via Zoom. Most clients notice a shift within two to three sessions and work with me for six to twelve in total. Clinical hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis: you stay awake, aware and in control throughout. Read more about sessions and fees or about me.

Frequently asked questions

Can hypnotherapy cure IBS?

No therapy can promise a cure. What many clients find is that relaxation work and changing their relationship with symptoms makes day-to-day life easier. It is best used alongside advice from your GP.

Will hypnotherapy help me get pregnant?

I cannot make that promise, and it would not be fair to suggest it. I can help you manage the stress, anxiety and emotional strain that come with trying to conceive and with IVF.

Do I need to tell my doctor?

It is a good idea. Hypnotherapy works alongside medical treatment, and I never ask clients to change or stop medication or treatment plans.

Can you help my child?

Please contact me to talk it through. I will be able to tell you whether I can help and what the next step would be.
